Dehydrated pie or chocolate pudding? Spanikopita bark to munch on the trail? Dried tomato and zucchini chips? Yes, these all are for real.
You can find out how to make these and other camp culinary creations at a dehydrating and trail food seminar Feb. 10.
This program is for novices, the curious and the accomplished camp cook.
Participants will learn how to select a dehydrator and how to use it to remove all the water from food to minimize weight and maximize flavors and culinary experiences on the trail.
Participants will have a chance to share experiences with favorite trail food treats, dehydrated or not. Samples would be welcome too. Ideas for shortcuts or lightweight solutions for eating on the trail, whether on a day hike, a day paddle, or an overnight trip, will be welcome as well.
The free seminar begins at 2 p.m. at The Mountaineers Tacoma Program Center, 2302 N. 30th St., Tacoma. It is open to members and the public.
