WWU's Levin debuts with shutout

Freshman pitcher Alexie Levin made her collegiate debut with a three-hit shutout as Western Washington University blanked Saint Martin's University 1-0 Saturday, Feb. 2, in second-day action at the University of Hawaii Hilo Kona Kickoff Classic Invitational Tournament.

Earlier in the day, outfielder Camille Depew in four runs on three hits as the Vikings defeated host University of Hawaii Hilo 9-7.

WWU improved to 3-1with the two wins.

In the second game, Levin gave up just two singles, both runners being eliminated on double plays, and one double to lead off the fifth. Levin responded to that with two ground outs sandwiched around a strikeout.

The Vikings scored the game's only run in the third. Emma Blauser walked, advanced to second on a single by Depew and to third on a sacrifice bunt by Kristen Allen. Blauser scored on a sacrifice fly to right field by Levin.

In the first game, Depew had a three-run double in the bottom of the third inning as the Vikings scored five times for a 9-2 lead. She also singled in a run as WWU scored four runs in the second.
