Edwards leads WCC women to home win

Published: February 3, 2013

Cambie Edwards had 17 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Whatcom Community College women's basketball team to a 66-63 win on Saturday, Feb. 2, at home over Peninsula.

WCC coach Sara Bergner praised the play of Edwards against a tough opponent.

"We knew coming in that it was going to be a close game. Peninsula is very tough and they played hard," Bergner said in a phone interview. "I think this is the best we've seen from (Edwards) all season. She was physical and it showed in her stat line."

Bree Park also had a solid game with 17 points, including five 3-pointers, and six assists as Whatcom improved to 14-6 overall and are first in the NWAACC North Division with a 7-1 record.

Erika Locker added 13 points for the Orcas, who play at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 6, at Skagit Valley College, and Amanda Tapia had 10 points.
