Williams has triple-double in Vikings win

Published: February 3, 2013

Forward Trishi Williams had just the third triple-double in school history as nationally ranked Western Washington University claimed an 83-72 victory over defending league and West Region champion University of Alaska Anchorage on Saturday, Feb. 2, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women's basketball contest at Sam Carver Gymnasium.

Center Britt Harris had 17 of her game-high 25 points in the first half for the Vikings, who are No. 5 in this week's Top 25 Poll. WWU improved to 17-2 overall and stayed two games in front in the GNAC standings at 11-0 with their 11th consecutive victory.

Williams had 11 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists, the latter two figures being game highs, for the first WWU triple-double since Addy Johnson accomplished the feat in the 1994-95 season. The 11 assists were also the most for a Viking since the 2002-03 season.

UAA fell to 10-9 overall and 4-7 in the GNAC with its seventh loss in the last 10 games. Guard Jessica Madison had 18 points and nine rebounds for the Seawolves, center Alysa Horn had 17 points and guard Sasha King added 16.

The Vikings never trailed, using an 8-2 run to take a 19-12 lead 8:15 into the game. WWU, which held UAA to 28.6 percent (10 of 35) field-goal shooting in the opening period, expanded the margin to 39-25 at halftime.

The Seawolves twice pulled within nine in the second half, but never got closer than that, and the margin remained in double digits through the final 11 minutes.

Corinn Waltrip and Sydney Donaldson each had 10 points for the Vikings, who shot 53.3 percent (32 of 60) from the field for the game, including 58.1 percent (18 of 31) in the second half.

WWU is now unbeaten in 11 home games this season and has won 15 straight at Carver Gym over the last two years.

The Vikings swept the season series against the Seawolves, having claimed a 70-60 victory at Anchorage on Jan. 3.
