The Blaine girls' basketball team held on to win 48-41 at Burlington-Edison in its Northwest Conference regular season finale Friday, Feb. 1.
"We came out with a lot of energy and defensively we played outstanding," Blaine coach Ryan Pike said in a phone interview. "We switched it up on them quite a bit and I think they got a little confused with it."
The Borderites (15-5, 9-3 NWC) were led in scoring by Mandy Hayes, who scored 18 points, and Alexis McElwain, who scored 14 and had eight rebounds.
"I thought Olivia Olason and Rhiana Breedlove stood out for me defensively tonight," Pike said. "They were charged with guarding Sydney Brown and Mariah Swanson and they did a good job of that."
Blaine hosts Mount Baker on Monday, Feb. 4, in the first round of the class 1A Northwest District tournament.
