The Lynden girls' basketball team took advantage of a big second half to defeat Meridian 64-28 in a Northwest Conference game at Meridian on Thursday, Jan. 31.

"I thought it was pretty competitive for most of the first half," Meridian coach Don McMains said in a phone interview. "Lynden came out and didn't shoot the ball well but just got after it defensively. I think the Meridian girls played one of their better games this season as far as staying in our offense and trying to accomplish what we wanted."

Lynden (11-8, 6-5 NWC) was led by Kelsey Bouwman, who scored 13 points, and Maddi Hommes, who scored 12.

The Trojans (1-19, 0-12 NWC) were led by Sydney Swanson and Allecia Galindo, who both scored six points.

"Swanson made some key baskets and was aggressive on the offensive end and did a great job on defense for us," McMains said.

Lynden hosts Sedro-Woolley on Tuesday, Feb. 5, for its final Northwest Conference play before beginning the 2A District 1/2 tournament.

Meridian's season is done.
