The application period for spring turkey controlled hunts opens Feb. 1 and runs to March 1. Spring turkey seasons start April 15 — some controlled hunts open later. Turkey youth hunts open April 8. Hunters may apply for controlled hunts at any hunting and fishing license vendor; Fish and Game office or online. The application fee is $6.25 per person for residents and $14.75 for nonresidents. An additional fee is charged for telephone and Internet applications. A turkey controlled hunt permit costs $7.75. Hunters must have a 2013 Idaho hunting license to apply.

Local author Sandy Epeldi will present his new guidebook to hiking and trail running in the Boise region, “Boise Backcountry Adventures.” The presentation will feature photos, as well as some tips for hiking in the Boise region.
