Nooksack Valley boys earn first win of season

The Nooksack Valley boys' basketball team earned its first win of the season with a 62-50 Northwest Conference victory Wednesday, Jan. 29, at home over Bellingham.

Connor Beard had 15 points, Brandon Turnberg had 12, including three 3-pointers, Bret Rediger had 12 points and 14 rebounds, Brandon Gwinner had 13 points and Seth Taron had 10 blocks for the Pioneers, who improved to 1-18 overall and 1-10 in the NWC.

"The last few games we've played pretty well and played pretty hard," Nooksack coach Tyler Mitchell said in a phone interview. "The guys have been plugging away and working at it and did a nice job."

Marques Reynolds had 14 points and seven rebounds, and Alex Check added 13 points as the Red Raiders fell to 10-10 overall and 5-6 in the NWC.

Bellingham hosts Mount Baker on Friday, Feb. 1, while the Pioneers will travel to Sedro-Woolley, both Northwest Conference games.
