The top-ranked Lynden boys' basketball team traveled to Ferndale and came away with a 61-37 Northwest Conference victory on Monday, Jan. 28.

The win gave the Lions a 17-1 overall record and 10-0 in NWC.

"You can tell they are the No. 1 team in the state," Ferndale coach Monte Walton said in a phone interview. "They are a well-coached and well-balanced team."

The Lions had a four-point lead after the first quarter and increased the lead to double digits after outscoring the Golden Eagles by seven points in the second quarter.

"We gave them too many second-chance points in the second quarter," Walton said.

Lynden was led by John Shine's 16 points and Matt Meyer's 14 points.

Ferndale (8-11, 5-6 NWC) was led by Lukas Melton and John Weg who scored eight points each.
