Squalicum's Madi Krussow took first place in the all-around at the Wesco gymnastics meet on Saturday, Jan. 26, at Cascade Elite Gymnastics in Mountlake Terrace with 31.55 points and was followed closely by Sehome's Zoe Bunnell, who placed second with 31.2 points, in an impressive day for the Bellingham district team.
Bellingham took second overall with 123.55 points to first-place Shorewood's 138.825, while Squalicum was fourth at 119.375 and Sehome fifth at 79.025. Bellingham's Ellie Kindlund also was selected Academic All-League at the meet.
On the vault, Krussow took second with 8.15 points, while Bunnell was third at 8.05.
Krussow took first on the bars with 7.1 points, followed closely by Bunnell at 7.0. Kindlund was fifth at 6.1.
Bunnell won on the balance beam with a score of 8.35, while Krussow was fifth at 7.45.
Bellingham's Ariel McGavock took second on the floor with a score of 8.32.
Krussow and Bunnell each qualified to compete in the all-around at the Feb. 9 district meet at Sammamish High School.
Also qualifying to compete at the district meet were Rachel Cornwell (Bellingham), Melissa Schedlin (Sehome), Catalina Fitzpatrick (Sehome) and Anna Detsikas (Squalicum) on the vault, Shea Walker (Bellingham), Kindlund, Fitzpatrick, Paige Store (Squalicum) and Sienna Takabe (Squalicum) on the bars, Walker, Natasha Aven (Bellingham), Cornwell, McGavock and Sienna Takabe (Squalicum) on the beam and Sage Stevenson (Bellingham), Cornwell, McGovok and Hali Sandstrom (Squalicum) on the floor exercise.
