Seattle author Nicholas O’Connell will offer a reading and slide show for his new novel, “The Storms of Denali,” at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Tacoma Public Library.

In his first piece of fiction, O’Connell tells the story of four young men who set out to climb a new route on 20,320-foot Denali, the highest summit in North America.

O’Connell also has written three nonfiction books, as well as contributing to National Geographic Adventure, Sierra and Conde Nast Traveler. An English professor at the University of Washington, O’Connell is a mountaineer himself. He has climbed Denali, Mount Rainier, Mount Whitney, Matterhorn and Mont Blanc. Some of his experiences climbing Denali are included in the book.

The event will be in the Olympic Room at the Main Library, 1102 Tacoma Ave. S., Tacoma.
