Quick start helps Bellingham to win over Ferndale at home

The Bellingham boys' basketball team had a strong first half and went on to a 70-43 Northwest Conference win over visiting Ferndale on Thursday, Jan. 24.

The Red Raiders outscored the Golden Eagles by eight points in the first quarter and seven more in the second quarter for a 15-point halftime lead.

"I thought we came out and played with some energy," Bellingham coach Ken Crawford said in a phone interview. "We jumped on them pretty quick."

Kailen Hayes led Bellingham with 16 points while Darice Haywood had 12 points and Nick Zeegers added 11 points. Alex Check posted nine points and 11 rebounds for the Red Raiders (10-8, 5-4 NWC).

Ferndale (9-9, 5-5 NWC) was led by Lukas Melton's 10 points and Austin Honeycutt's nine points and seven rebounds.
