The Whatcom Community College women's basketball team built a 20-point lead in the first half and then held on to earn a 64-60 victory Wednesday, Jan. 23, at Everett Community College.
WCC coach Sara Bergner said her team watched its lead shrink and then had to fight to win.
"It always gives you an uneasy feeling because you know the other team is going to come charging back and they did," Bergner said in a phone interview. "We kind of refocused ourselves. It was kind of a scary one for us so we were happy to come away with a victory."
Cambie Edwards had 21 points, Erika Locker had 13 points and 14 rebounds, Bree Park had 13 points, including three 3-pointers, and Amanda Tapia added nine assists for Whatcom, which improved to 5-1 in league and 12-5 overall.
Whatcom has a 2 p.m. game Saturday, Jan. 26, at Shoreline.
