The Nooksack Valley girls' wrestling team defeated Mount Vernon 33-24 in a non-conference meet Wednesday, Jan. 23, at Nooksack Valley High School.

The Pioneers pinned all but one opponent in their matches.

"I'm surprised we won because we had so many forfeits," Nooksack Valley coach Michelle Dekoekkoek said in a phone interview. "I'm really impressed. Alex Parson had a really good tough match."

Parson defeated Jenny Mendez 9-4 in the 118 weight class. Chloe Gardner (137) pinned Leigh Lamay in 42 seconds for the Pioneers.

Nooksack Valley will next host the Northwest Conference Championships on Friday, Jan. 25.
