The Mount Baker boys' basketball team came back in the fourth quarter to get a 56-54 win at Blaine in a Northwest Conference game Tuesday, Jan. 22.
"It was a good game and really close throughout," Blaine coach Shaun Pile said in a phone interview. "The free throw line ended up being a difference like it always is in a close game. When you barely shoot over 50 percent, you aren't going to win too many close games."
Pile said Mount Baker was able to attack the zone defense in the fourth quarter and was able to get offensive rebounds that made the difference.
The Borderites (3-13, 1-8 NWC) were led by Zach Rector, who scored 12 points and had five assists, and Gabe Trump and Isaiah Jackson, who each scored 11 points.
"Jackson had a heck of a game inside," Pile said. "He was working hard and the boards and that was good to see."
Mount Baker (5-11, 2-6 NWC) was led by Reuben Murashov, who scored 19 points.
Blaine travels to Lynden on Friday, Jan. 25, while the Mountaineers travel to Squalicum, both Northwest Conference games.
