A 24-9 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter helped lead the Ferndale girls' basketball team to a 55-32 Northwest Conference win at Squalicum on Monday, Jan. 21.
Ferndale remained undefeated in NWC play at 9-0 and 15-2 overall. Squalicum dropped to 4-13, 3-6 NWC.
"I was really proud of our kids for fighting hard," Squalicum coach Mark Wright said in a phone interview. "That was a huge challenge for us."
The Storm was down by four points at halftime and eight going into the fourth quarter. A 50-35 rebounding advantage by the Golden Eagles as well as doubling the amount of free throws made were enough for Ferndale to win.
"They outrebounded us and we weren't able to knock down some free throws," Wright said.
Taryn Knutson had 12 points while Koral Weidkamp and Linsey Honeycutt each scored nine points for Ferndale.
Lauren Eckert led Squalicum with nine points.
