Nooksack Valley boys' basketball loses to Seattle Academy

Nooksack Valley's Brandon Gwinner had team highs of 10 points, eight rebounds and three assists, but the Pioneers lost to Class 1A's No. 1-ranked Seattle Academy 72-42 in a non-conference game Saturday, Jan. 19, at Nooksack Valley High School.

The Pioneers trailed 19-9 after the first quarter and fell behind 41-22 by halftime.

"They got to the rim on us, and we had some turnovers that led to some easy buckets for them," Nooksack Valley coach Tyler Mitchell said in a phone interview.

Yaniv Shier led Seattle Academy with 26 points, and Ben Gerke added 20.

Nooksack Valley hosts Anacortes next at 7:15 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21.
