Nooksack Valley girls' wrestling takes second at Dream Duals

The Nooksack Valley girls' wrestling team made the most of its invitation to the Dream Duals wrestling tournament by placing second out of seven teams Saturday, Jan. 19, in East Valley Spokane.

The Pioneers beat Rogers 39-24 in their first dual then followed the win with a close 33-30 victory against Othello to advance to the championship dual. Nooksack Valley 145-pounder Kandice O'Bryan pinned her opponent in the final match to help the Pioneers get the win.

Nooksack Valley lost 52-18 in the title dual against Warden.

"I was just in awe because they did so well," Nooksack Valley girls' assistant coach Michelle Dekoekkek said in a phone interview. "I think it gives them great confidence for the postseason."

Nooksack Valley hosts Mount Vernon next at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23.
