The Whatcom Community College men's basketball team nearly squandered a 20-point second-half lead but held on to beat Bellevue College 63-61 during a NWAACC game Saturday, Jan. 19, at Whatcom.

Leading by two, Whatcom missed a free throw with 4 seconds left. Bellevue drove the length of the court but couldn't get a shot off before time expired.

"We went on a spree where we didn't score more than a point in 10 minutes," Whatcom coach Chris Scrimsher said in a phone interview. "Nothing was falling for us. Sometimes you got to win ugly, and that was an ugly win."

Kyle Impero scored a team-high 16 points, Zach Stalin added 14 points and Alex Duncan scored five points and recorded seven rebounds, seven assists and three steals.

WCC travels to play Everett next at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23.
