Borderites start off strong, defeat Meridian 49-19

The Blaine girls' basketball team defeated Meridian 49-19 in a Northwest Conference game Friday, Jan. 18, at Meridian High School.

"Blaine came out and really showed what kind of a team they are," Meridian coach Don McMains said in a phone interview. "They started out well and took control right off the bat. Their pressure made it difficult for our girls to get into the flow of the game."

Blaine (10-5, 5-3 NWC) was led by Taylor V'Dovec, who scored 14 points, and Mandy Hayes and Alexis McElwain, who each scored nine.

The Borderites outscored Meridian 32-9 in the first half.

Meridian (1-14, 0-7 NWC) was led by Taylor Lunde, who scored six points and had four rebounds.

Blaine travels to Mount Baker Monday, Jan. 21, while the Trojans will host Burlington-Edison on Tuesday, Jan. 22, both Northwest Conference games.
