BLAINE - A Blaine man was charged this week with messaging preteen girls on Facebook and asking them to meet up, smoke marijuana and have sex with him.
Robert F. Fout, 27, used the alias "Robby Lawler" when he added the girls as friends on Facebook - unsolicited - and started flirting with them, according to charges filed Friday, Jan. 18, in Whatcom County Superior Court. Prosecutors believe he may have propositioned up to 30 girls for sex acts.
Court records show "Robby" offered one girl marijuana if she showed him her breasts. He described sex acts they could do together. He suggested "it would be hot if they got high and made out" and told her they could be "friends with bennies," according to the charges. He asked if he could pick her up after school.
Fout allegedly told the girl he was 20 years old; the preteen girl told him she was 13.
Late in November, the girl forgot to log out of Facebook on her mom's computer. The mom found messages from "Robby." She took screenshots of the entire conversation, according to the charges. She found repeated requests to meet up and a photo of a shirtless 6-foot-1 man in his 20s.
One day later, another preteen girl's mother discovered odd text messages referencing the same fake Facebook account. Several times, Fout had called and texted the Everson-area girl - using a phone investigators later traced to the 400 block of F Street in Blaine, according to the charges
Again, the messages were raunchy and flirtatious: compliments mixed in with offers to meet up, smoke marijuana and engage in sex acts. And again, "Robby" claimed he was 20 years old.
Fout was interviewed by detectives. According to prosecutors, he admitted he owned the phone that sent the messages and went on to say he used a "nickname" for his Facebook account when he talked with the girls. In the interview, Fout estimated he carried out the same pattern - offering to meet, smoke marijuana and have sex - with 20 to 30 different preteens.
His computer and cellphone were seized after the Whatcom County Sheriff's Office got a warrant.
Fout stands accused of two counts of soliciting to rape a child in the second degree and four counts of communicating with a minor for immoral purposes.
Other than a misdemeanor conviction for possessing marijuana, Fout has no criminal history in Washington state.
