Pioneer girls get 42-22 win over Bellingham

The Nooksack Valley girls' wrestling team defeated Bellingham 42-22 in a Northwest Conference meet Wednesday, Jan. 16, in Bellingham.

Only two matches were wrestled in the event.

Chelsey Howard defeated Maria Cazares 12-2 for the Red Raiders (0-3, 0-3 NWC) in the 100 weight class.

"Maria did pretty good against Chelsey, who always finishes in the top of every tournament we have been at," Nooksack Valley coach Michelle Dekoekkoek said in a phone interview.

Yasmin Cabrera (170) pinned Annika Trinchan in 2 minutes 28 seconds for the Pioneers (4-1, 2-1 NWC)

Nooksack Valley hosts Mount Vernon on Wednesday, Jan. 23, while Bellingham will participate in the Lady Wolfpack Invite on Saturday, Jan. 26.
