Each spring, Bellingham is home to a half-dozen "creative reuse" events - the Welding Rodeo, Trash Fashion, Recycled Art Shows, Procession of the Species, Appliance Derby and more.
The RARE two-day event, April 20--21, will provide a unified platform for the many green-themed artistic endeavors in the area. In addition to an entertaining roster of events, RARE will host educational workshops, speakers, panel discussions, exhibits and booths.
Artists with a passion for art from recycled materials are encouraged to become a part of RARE, and people can apply to participate with artist booths and as exhibitors, workshop facilitators, speakers and performers.
To participate, fill out the application at alliedarts.org or call 360-676-8548. Applications are due by 5 p.m. Feb. 7.
CLEANUP PARTIES PLANNED AT ROEDER HOME
Ever been to a concert at the Roeder Home? Musician Flip Breskin has a way for you to pay it forward. There will be cleanup parties at the Roeder Home at noon and 7 p.m. Tuesday Jan. 22. The historic home (a Whatcom County park, by the way,) is at 2700 Sunset Ave., at Broadway.
Here's what Flip says: "It actually IS a party! We had a blast doing this last year. Cleaning house with lots of people is a whole different kettle of fish than doing it in isolation. I got to know a bunch of folks better as we yakked and cleaned together.
"In the end, my experience inspired me to occasionally phone a friend and set up a shared/traded project: 'You come keep me company while I clean off my desk; and I'll come help scrub your kitchen floor (or whatever you can't seem to get around to).' We would love all the help we can get! Here's a chance to give back, and to care for our community."
Let Flip know if you're coming, and which shift, so she can get enough Mallard Ice Cream and other goodies to go around. Call 360-671-4511.
