Tough third quarter for Meridian in loss to Anacortes

A big advantage in the third quarter led the Anacortes boys' basketball team to a 59-46 Northwest Conference win at Meridian on Monday, Jan. 14.

The loss dropped the Trojans to 7-7, 2-4 NWC while the Seahawks improved to 10-4, 4-2 NWC.

Meridian was down just 27-24 at halftime before Anacortes had a 20-7 advantage in the third quarter to push the lead to 16 points.

"First half we did a good job of defending the 3-point shot," Meridian coach Shane Stacey said in a phone interview. "They came out in the second half and started attacking us a lot more."

Edward Garcia led the Trojans with 15 points, Alijah Garcia had 10 points and Spencer Blackburn had four points and 10 rebounds.
