BELLINGHAM - Severe weather shelters will remain open Monday night, Jan. 14, because of the freezing temperatures in the forecast.
The shelters, operated by the Interfaith Coalition, have been open nightly since Thursday during the current cold spell. They open when there is a snowstorm or the temperature is in the low 20s or below.
People can call 360-788-7983 daily to see if the shelters are open.
Two shelters will be open Monday night: a men's shelter at Faith Lutheran Church, 2750 McLeod Road, and a women's and children's shelter at Garden Street United Methodist Church, 1326 N. Garden St. The shelters will be open from 5 p.m. to 8 the next morning, and dinner and breakfast will be provided.
Salt on the Street will provide transportation to the shelters from 5 to 8 p.m., with pickups at the Rainbow Center, 209 W. Holly St., and Church on the Street, 901 W. Holly St.
