Pioneers can't hang with Burlington-Edison, fall 56-36

The Nooksack Valley girls' basketball team fell behind early and eventually lost 56-36 to Burlington-Edison in a Northwest Conference matchup between top teams in the league Friday, Jan. 11, at Burlington-Edison.

"They shot the ball well in the first half, but we were able to slow them down a bit in the second half," Nooksack Valley coach Shane Wichers said in a phone interview.

The Tigers outscored the Pioneers 33-16 in the first half, but Nooksack Valley only lost the second half by three points.

Melissa Stadt recorded a team-high 14 points, and Lindsay Hayes added six. Burlington-Edison's Ellary Torset led the Tigers with 18 points.

The Pioneers (9-4, 3-2 NWC) host Squalicum on Monday, Jan. 14, in a Northwest Conference game.
