Bellingham boys' basketball falls to Anacortes

Published: January 12, 2013

Kailen Hayes scored a team-high 23 points, and Alex Check added 15, but the Bellingham boys' basketball team lost 83-76 in a Northwest Conference game Friday, Jan. 11, in Anacortes.

"We were a little bit undermanned tonight with a couple kids out with injuries," Bellingham coach Ken Crawford said in a phone interview. "We knew we would probably be in for a dogfight."

The Red Raiders trailed 39-30 at halftime, but Bellingham cut Anacortes' lead to six points with two-and-a-half minutes left. Crawford said the Seahawks made key shots down the stretch that prevented Bellingham from narrowing the deficit.

Anacortes' Sam D'Amelio scored a game-high 27 points, and Ty Johnson added 20. Bellingham's Kyle Redmond scored 12 points, and Check had a team-high eight boards to go with his 15 points.

Bellingham (8-7, 3-3) travels to Sedro-Woolley for a Northwest Conference game on Monday, Jan. 14.
