The Lummi boys' basketball team was unable to mount a comeback and lost 59-52 to Tulalip Heritage at home in a Northwest League 1B game Friday, Jan. 11.

"We shot ourselves in the foot and went 12-28 for free throws," Lummi coach Jerome Toby said in a phone interview. "Tulalip had an outstanding third quarter and we came out flat. We got it back to four points in the fourth but came up short."

Lummi (9-2, 6-1 NWC) had a 23-22 lead at halftime, but was outscored 22-6 in the third.

"Give credit to Tulalip, they battled in the second half and their big third quarter was the difference," Toby said.

The Blackhawks were led by Joe Brady, who scored 17 points, and Kavarez Lane, who scored 14 points and had five rebounds.

Lummi travels to Neah Bay on Saturday, Jan. 12, for a Northwest League 1B game.
