Borderite defense leads team to 47-25 win

Published: January 11, 2013

The Blaine girls' basketball team defeated Squalicum 47-25 in a Northwest Conference game Thursday, Jan. 10, at Squalicum High School.

"Tonight was a game where two teams shot really poorly in the first half and they had some big plays and were ahead at halftime," Squalicum coach Mark Wright said in a phone interview. "I think the game settled down in the second but neither team will be excited about the offense. They were just more aggressive and attacked the basket and we settled for the outside shot."

Squalicum (3-11, 2-4 NWC) was led by Jessica Greene, Janna Poradun and Meghan Lowry, who each scored six points.

Blaine (8-5, 3-3 NWC) was led by Mandy Hayes and Breanna Chau, who each scored 13 points.

The Borderites forced 28 turnovers while only having nine of their own.

The Storm plays at Nooksack Valley on Monday, Jan. 14, while Blaine hosts Sehome on Tuesday, Jan. 15, both Northwest Conference games.
