Recently a letter writer advocated that we lay down our arms. That arms are a source of danger rather than security. For our children's sake he claimed we need to do this and that we need arms to disappear.
He doesn't seem to understand that we don't have the power to stuff the genie of guns back into the bottle. Turn them all in and beat them into plowshares? Not doable until Jesus returns.
I'm not too worried about being obliterated by a drone missile (his concern) but having someone armed, break into my home, yes that's a legitimate worry. The lovely thing about guns is that they are equalizers. You may be 6-feet, 4-inches tall and all muscle and me a middle-aged, disabled woman, but a Glock sure levels the playing field.
The letter writer suggests that the world is a different place and guns are no longer necessary. He doesn't take into account that humans haven't changed. People are going to do bad things, even utterly evil things. I think I'll take the protection and security that a firearm will bring me rather than rely on wishful thinking to protect me.
