We sent out a reader survey late last year, and you overwhelmingly asked for a return to the traditional Thursday Outdoors section.

We listened and now it’s all here — well, almost. We’ve included the most popular, relevant and timely information that outdoor folks can use, and what people asked for most in the survey.

First off, you may notice there’s no river, reservoir and snow reports below. Don’t panic, they’re at idahostatesman.com/outdoors. Scroll to the bottom and look on the right side for “Snow, rivers and reservoirs.”

We know that’s good information, but we’ve debated back and forth the wisdom of publishing it once per week while knowing it’s at least 24 hours old by the time you read it.

We decided it’s better to offer that data online so it’s available anytime you want it and in real time.

We also brought the popular Photo Challenge and Natural Wonder back into the Outdoors section, and you will find Zimo’s and Roger’s columns on the back page alternating each week.

You will also notice we retired some old traditional features, such as Tackle Tip and Vektor Tables. We wanted to free up some space for other things.

You may also see the Makin’ Tracks feature is missing on the front page of Outdoors. That’s actually so you can get more information about upcoming events and activities. We’re revamping the calendar to make planning easier and get as many events as possible into Outdoors, which was difficult in the limited space available on the front page.

We’re asking for everyone’s help to keep folks informed about cool events happening in the Treasure Valley and beyond. You can email them to outdoors@idahostatesman.com.

Preference will be given to events open to the public for free or a nominal fee.

We will periodically run a list of Treasure Valley clubs and their meeting schedules as space allows.

But our continued focus is keeping you informed about what’s happening outdoors and getting you excited to go out and have fun.

We’re doing it in print on Thursdays and online daily at Idahostatesman.com/outdoors and on our blog at voices.idahostatesman.com/outdoors, which you can also access through the Statesman’s home page.
