Sporadic power outage reported in Bellingham's Fairhaven district

Published: January 9, 2013

BELLINGHAM - Businesses in central Fairhaven had sporadic power problems during a nearly three-hour outage Wednesday morning, Jan. 9.

About 45 customers were affected by the outage, which appears to have been caused by a failure in underground cables in the area, according to Puget Sound Energy spokeswoman MacKenzie McDowell. It was unclear what caused the failure.

Power went out at about 9 a.m. and returned at about 11:45 a.m., leaving many businesses with only partial power in between.

Magdalena's Creperie at 1200 10th St. closed because it had power to some appliances but not enough to run the restaurant.

The nearby Village Inn also had power working in some places but not others.

At Village Books, some computers were working and some not because of the spotty power; the business stayed open during the outage.
