Storm mount comeback and defeat Bellingham 45-42

The Squalicum girls' basketball team came back from a five-point halftime deficit to win 45-42 in a Northwest Conference game Tuesday, Jan. 8, at Bellingham High School to win its third game out of four.

"Bellingham got out early on us, but we were able to pull even in the third," Squalicum coach Mark Wright said in a phone interview. "At halftime we challenged the girls because we were doing OK, we were just giving up too may second chance shots. We defended a lot better and only gave them one chance."

Wright said the Storm (3-10, 2-3 NWC) also limited its turnovers. Squalicum was led by Lauren Eckert in scoring with 14 and Jessica Greene with 10.

Bellingham (7-7, 1-4 NWC) was led by Olivia Halverson and Catrina Mahoney, who each scored 13.

Squalicum hosts Blaine on Thursday, Jan. 10, while Bellingham hosts Anacortes on Friday, Jan. 11, both Northwest Conference games.
