Rylan Korby won a tough dive competition and the Squalicum boys' swim team split a dual meet with Sedro-Woolley and Archbishop Murphy on Tuesday, Jan. 8, at Arne Hanna Aquatic Center.

The Storm defeated Sedro-Woolley 126-38 in Northwest Conference action and lost to Archbishop Murphy 107-79.

Korby took first place in diving with 189.45 points, 31 points ahead of Archbishop Murphy's Steve Kane. Squalicum coach Randy Elsner said the two divers will be competing for a title at the state meet.

"The dive performance was amazing," Elsner said in a phone interview. "There were some high-caliber dives here."

Squalicum (2-3, 2-2 NWC) won every event in the win against Sedro-Woolley. Korby also won the 100 butterfly (1 minute, 4.23 seconds), Neall Koetje won two events (50 freestyle, 100 freestyle), Andi DeKoster won two events (200 freestyle, 500 freestyle) and the Storm swept the three relays. Also winning for Squalicum were Jonathan Hegeberg (200 individual medley), Ryan Harris (100 backstroke) and Nathan Kamkoff (100 breaststroke).
