Residents of southwest Bellingham and the Concrete School District have until Monday, Jan. 14, to register by mail or online for the Feb. 12 election, if they aren't already registered to vote.
Southwest Bellingham voters will decide whether to create the Chuckanut Community Forest Park District, a taxing district to help pay for acquisition of the 82-acre Chuckanut Ridge. Money from the tax will repay a $3.2 million loan the city took from its Greenways endowment fund to help cover the purchase.
If the tax is approved, the owner of a $300,000 home south of Western Washington University and west of Interstate 5 in Bellingham would pay $84 more a year in property tax for 10 years. Voters in southwest Bellingham are also choosing five park district commissioners.
The Concrete School District is placing a maintenance and operations levy on the Feb. 12 ballot.
