Squalicum boys' diver Rylan Korby scored 307.85 points to claim place first and earn an automatic state berth during the Northwest District dive meet Saturday, Jan. 5, at Fidalgo Pool in Anacortes.
Sehome's Rocky Rantz finished second with a score of 247.15, Squalicum's Christian Herzberger (176.5) and Chance Gwinner (148.25) placed fourth and fifth, respectively, and Bellingham's Andrew Twedt finished sixth with a dive of 125.90.
"I thought Rylan had a really solid dive today, and he hit some of his harder dives," Bellingham district dive coach Taylor Sundstrom said in a phone interview. "It wasn't his best score, but being the first 11-dive event of the season, he did really well. I think Rocky Rantz had a really good performance today and has stepped up his diving this year."
The next district dive meet is at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at Fidalgo Pool.
NOTE: Spelling of Korby's name corrected Jan. 7.
