Published: January 6, 2013

Mount Baker's Natalie Smith and Aysha Schwinden won individual titles and helped the Mount Baker girls' wrestling team win the Woolley Women's Wrestling Tournament Saturday, Jan. 5, at Sedro-Woolley High School.

Lynden placed second, and Burlington-Edison placed third. A total of 28 teams competed.

"I thought we performed fairly well," Mount Baker coach Clyde Blockley said in a phone interview. "Christmas break got us a little bit, but now we are getting back into our rhythm and are ready to go."

Jessica Mata (124 pounds), Megan Young (137) and Akemi Schwinden (235) placed second in their respective weight classes.

"Natalie Smith is just really tearing it up right now," Blockley said. "She's improving every tournament. Aysha is getting back to right where she left off last year."

Blaine sophomore Olivia Adams placed first wrestling at 130 pounds. It was her first tournament championship.

The Mountaineers compete in the Fife Tournament next Saturday, Jan. 12, in Fife.
