Hunter Schenk, Tyrel Cronk and Jake Larsen won individual titles and helped the Mount Baker boys' wrestling team place second at the Warden Tournament Saturday, Jan. 5, at Warden High School.
Tonasket won with 191.5 points, Mount Baker had 185 points, Warden finished third with 183, Kittitas was fourth with 135 and Cascade Leavenworth rounded out the top five with 79 points.
Schenk (126 pounds), Cronk (195) and Larsen (285) earned pins in their title matches. Jeremiah Cronk (132), Zach Larson (145), Travis Lindsey (160) and Sterling Honeycutt grabbed second-place tournament finishes.
Matt Scoles (220) and Alex Ray (170) earned third-place honors, Alex Tyska (152) and Max Martinson (182) placed fourth and Shelby Miles (120) finished in sixth place. All 12 wrestlers that made the trip placed.
"I thought overall we wrestled well," Mount Baker coach Ron Lepper said in a phone interview. "If we would have capitalized on a few matches, it could have went the other way. I thought Jeremiah Cronk wrestled solid. Hunter Schenk wrestled really well today. He took first place and pinned all his opponents."
Mount Baker wrestles Ferndale and Marysville-Getchell next at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at Ferndale High School.
