Shearer, Sands lead Ferndale boys to 70-62 win

Published: January 5, 2013

Brady Shearer and Aiden Sands scored more than half of Ferndale's points and led the Golden Eagles to a 70-62 win at Sehome on Friday, Jan. 4, in a Northwest Conference game.

"Sands and Shearer shot the ball really well and it was tough for us to climb back in it," Sehome coach A.J. LaBree said in a phone interview. "A lot of times our tips and hustle plays turned into turnovers instead of buckets tonight. Credit to Ferndale though, they shot the ball well and they outplayed and outhustled us tonight and deserved to win."

Shearer scored 22 points and Sands scored 21 for the Golden Eagles (6-6, 3-1 NWC).

The Mariners (9-3, 2-2 NWC) were led by Charlie Linneman, who scored 26 points.

"Charlie held us in it offensively," LaBree said. "But any time you turn the ball over 30 times, you will struggle to stay in it. I was surprised it was that close."

Sehome travels to Mount Baker on Monday, Jan. 7, while Ferndale hosts Blaine on Tuesday, Jan. 8, both Northwest Conference games.
