Police arrested 115 suspected drunk drivers this holiday season during emphasis patrols in Whatcom County.

More law enforcement officers were on the streets in Bellingham, Ferndale, Lynden and surrounding areas from Nov. 21 to Jan. 1, as part of a statewide effort to get impaired drivers off the streets.

The extra patrols were funded by a Washington Traffic Safety Commission grant.

By comparison, during the same time period last year 134 Whatcom County drivers were booked into jail on suspicion of DUI.
