Work and learn in the great outdoors

Published: January 4, 2013

The outdoors is always free, but sometimes in winter we need a little motivation to get us out there enjoying it. Work parties and garden workshops this weekend at local nature centers and parks provide opportunities to care for your environment and learn how to make your own garden better.

Here’s what’s being offered this weekend in Tacoma and Olympia.

At the Tacoma Nature Center, join in to help habitat restoration this Saturday at a work party from 9 a.m.-noon. (also same time Jan. 18), and on Sunday find out how to incorporate and care for native plants in your garden from 1-3 p.m. Tacoma Nature Center, 1919 S. Tyler St., Tacoma. Free. 253-591-6439, tacomanaturecenter.org.

In Olympia, join a work party Sunday at Priest Point Park led by Olympia Parks, Arts and Recreation to do maintenance and restoration at the park from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Priest Point Park, 2600 E. Bay Drive NE, Olympia. Free. 360-753-8365, olympiawa.gov/city-services/parks/volunteering/volunteers-in-parks.
