The Lynden boys' swim team relied on its depth as it beat Squalicum 96-72 in a Northwest Conference meet on Thursday, Jan. 3, in Lynden.
"Both teams were down a number of swimmers from the holidays and sickness but they all swam really well and had good times even after a lot of work," Lynden coach Steve Gibb said in a phone interview. "There were some personal bests too. They won more than we did but we had a lot of depth and a lot of second and thirds."
Lynden won the first two relays. Jeffrey Propersi, Jan Wolfisberg, Robby Knapp and Lorenzo Perez won the 200 medley relay with a time of 1 minute, 52.1 seconds. Perez and Wolfisberg were also part of the winning 200 freestyle relay team along with Brian Anker and Bryton Snavely, and had a time of 1:43.2.
Squalicum was led by Neall Koetje, who won the 50 freestyle in 24.8, 100 freestyle in 54.7, and was part of the winning 400 freestyle relay with Andi DeKoster, Jonathan Hegeberg and Lucas Roberts that had a time of 3:48.6
Lynden will next host Burlington-Edison on Tuesday, Jan. 8, while Squalicum will hosts Sedro-Woolley, both NWC meets.
