Josh Whitman picked up a key major decision at 220 pounds, and Devin Robins got a 285-pound pin in the final match of the night to lift the Sehome wrestling team to a 37-36 Northwest Conference victory at Anacortes on Wednesday, Jan. 2.
Whitman kept the door open for the Mariners with his 12-1 victory over James Swanson, and Robins took care of the rest, pinning Caleb Frazier in 1 minute, 34 seconds.
"Whitman's kind of been a journeyman kind of guy for us, and he had a great match," Sehome coach Scott Schroyer said in a phone interview. "He wrestled really well and gave us a chance to win it, and Devin did what he had to do to get us the win."
Jose Ramirez also got a pin at 152 pounds, Austin Vosburgh got a hard-fought, back-and-forth 9-7 win at 160 pounds and the Mariners picked up forfeit wins from Liam Irwin (113), Steven Yazzie (132) and Blaise Black (138).
Sehome (3-0, 2-0 NWC) next heads to the Burlington duals tournament on Saturday, Jan. 5.
