The Ferndale wrestling team won all but three matches in a 63-12 non-conference win over a Bellingham team that also featured wrestlers from Meridian and Concrete on Wednesday, Jan. 2, at Bellingham High School.
The win improved the Golden Eagles to 2-1 overall.
"All in all it was a good day, hard to complain when you lose only three matches at varsity," Ferndale coach Caleb Schlack said in a phone interview.
Ferndale had pins by Bodrie Belknap (106 pounds), Collin Sutton (126), Miguel Mungarro (145), Erik Engels (160), Charnjit Mattu (170), Klinton Maassen (182), Sam Alexander (195) and Kam Williams (220).
However, it was a match a Ferndale wrestler lost that Schlack thought stood out when Devon Bennett lost 4-1 to Bellingham's Riley Takemura at 120 pounds.
"He just kept on battling the whole match," Schlack said. "It was nice to see the kid ... never giving up."
