Windward students seek immigrants to interview for oral history project

Published: January 1, 2013

FERNDALE - Windward High School students are looking for immigrants who are willing to share their stories for an oral history project Wednesday, Jan. 16.

Every other year, students work on an oral history project based around periods in American history, most recently the Vietnam War.

This year, rather than a specific time period, the theme is an experience: immigration. Students are hoping to talk to people in the community who moved to the United States from another country, whether recently or long ago. The students will do their interviews from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Jan. 16, at Windward High School, 5275 Northwest Ave.

People who'd like to share their stories and experiences can call Jenny Richard at 360-383-9289 or email jenny.richard@fsd.k12.wa.us to schedule an interview.

Four teachers and about 85 students will be working on the project once school is back in session after winter break. Students will then compile the stories and photos into a book as part of the project.
