The Whatcom Community College women's basketball team earned some revenge Sunday, Dec. 30, with a 59-51 win against Big Bend Community College during the third- or fourth-place game of the Lady Devil Holiday Tournament in Longview.
Two weeks ago, Big Bend narrowly beat the Orcas in the championship game of the WCC Crossover Tournament in Bellingham.
"It was nice to get that revenge," Whatcom coach Sara Bergner said in a phone interview. "I think the girls were definitely motivated to do that."
Erika Locker put the clamps on Big Bend's leading scorer Alli Winters, allowing her a team-high 11 points. The Orcas held Big Bend to 28 percent shooting from the field and 5 of 32 shooting from beyond the arch.
"I thought we contested shots really well tonight," Bergner said.
Bree Park scored a game-high 23 points and earned an all-tournament team selection, Cambie Edwards scored 10 points and Margaret Redelinghuis scored six and grabbed a team-high 12 boards.
Bergner praised the efforts of Leah Korthuis, who recently returned from an injury. She scored four points but played "quality minutes."
Whatcom went 2-1 in the tournament and travels to play Peninsula next at 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5
