Dan Kingma and Jason Todd each scored 20 points to lead Class 4A power Jackson to a 64-37 victory over Squalicum in the first day of the Crush in the Slush Tournament on Friday, Dec. 28, at Port Townsend.
"Todd is a guy that is getting recruited by Pac-12 schools and Kingma obviously has some pretty good blood lines," Squalicum coach Dave Dickson said in a phone interview. "They had some superior athletes, that's for sure."
After falling in a 31-18 hole at the half, the Storm (5-6) drew within nine points in the third quarter, but Jackson's defense wouldn't let Squalicum get any closer.
"I'm hoping we got a little better defensively from this game and we came together as a group," Dickson said. "We played well as a group, and I thought we competed together, and that's one component we will need for success. ... I thought Blake Youtsey and Alex Yuska competed really hard."
Youtsey led the Storm with nine points, while Yuska and Blake Harmon each scored 8.
Squalicum wraps up tournament play with a 2:15 p.m. game against Auburn Mountainview on Saturday, Dec. 29.
