Bellingham can't mount comeback, falls 92-84 to Mount Vernon

Published: December 29, 2012

The Bellingham boys' basketball team was unable to come back in its 92-84 loss to Mount Vernon in the Prostock Winter Classic in Bellingham on Friday, Dec. 28.

"It was a racehorse game with a lot of mistakes," Bellingham coach Ken Crawford said in a phone interview. "They are very big and pounded the boards really well. They had 25 offensive rebounds and that was the difference in the game."

Bellingham was outrebounded 54-42 in the loss.

The Red Raiders were led in scoring by Kailen Hayes, who had 25 points and 11 rebounds, and Nick Zeegers, who scored 17 points.

"I'm really pleased with the effort," Crawford said. "We almost came back. We need to work on some stuff on defense though before we go back to league games."

Bellingham will host Blaine on Thursday, Jan. 3, in a Northwest Conference game.
