Squalicum girl's get first win 42-34

Published: December 29, 2012

The Squalicum girls' basketball team won its first game of the year 42-34 against Pernith from Australia in the Archbishop Murphy Tournament on Friday, Dec. 28, in Everett.

"We lost a tough game yesterday and played early today and were beyond drab to start the game," Squalicum coach Mark Wright said in a phone interview. "I tried to make wholesale subs to change the energy level. I thought Kamea Pino really changed the energy of the game off the bench."

The Storm was led by Janna Poradun, who scored 16 points.

"Poradun is a tall kid and we try to get the ball to her often and she really responded today," Wright said. "16 points for us is borderline astounding. I was really happy with her play. I'm excited they get to celebrate their first win of the year."

Squalicum will play against Mountain View in the Archbishop Murphy Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 29.
