The Bellingham girls' basketball team won three of the four quarters, but too many missed shots and turnovers in the third quarter dug too deep a hole for them to recover from in a 46-42 loss to visiting Cedarcrest on Friday, Dec. 28, during the second day of the Prostock Winter Classic.

The Red Raiders (7-5) were outscored 23-9 in the third quarter, erasing a 21-16 lead they built in the first half. Bellingham also was out-rebounded 59-42, including 34-17 on the offensive glass.

"That led to 20 extra shots for them," coach Brad McKay said in a phone interview. "I thought we played good defense at the point of attack, we just couldn't secure possession, and it cost us down the road."

Nowhere was that better seen than in the fourth quarter, when Bellingham twice cut its deficit to four points, only to give up a second-chance bucket at the other end.

Joelle Zamora had another strong offensive game for Bellingham with a game-high 15 points, while Alicia Romero scored 11 to go along with her team-high seven rebounds.

The Red Raiders return to Northwest Conference action on Thursday, Jan. 3, when they travel to Blaine.
